Our Story – 400 Years in the Making

Ball’s Farm first appears in records of the late 1600s as a small copyhold holding on Elmstead’s “tye”. Absorbed into the Wivenhoe Park estate by the early 18th century, the timber-framed farmhouse you see today still forms the heart of the property. Beneath its hedged fields lie Iron-Age and Roman traces, while the barns around you evolved through the 18th and 19th centuries to support a thriving mixed farm. Farming ceased in the late 20th century; the surviving buildings were reborn as Pheasant Suites so that guests can enjoy modern luxury wrapped in authentic rural heritage.
